Sori Yanagi, born in 1915, was the son of Soetsu Yanagi, the founder of the Japanese Folk Crafts Museum. With a background in studying art and architecture, Sori Yanagi became a pioneering figure in Japanese postwar industrial design. His notable contributions include designing the torch holder and seats for the stadium used in the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Throughout his career, Yanagi emphasized the creation of long-lasting products that would remain useful and relevant in people’s everyday lives. He held a deep appreciation for organic beauty and incorporated this philosophy into his designs.
