How do you carry art? With a Poketo Artist Wallet. Produced as a way to promote artists, the wallets are pieces of art that you can walk away with, keeping it with you always, and being the catalyst for interesting conversation. Made with durable vinyl, the wallets contain 3 slots for credit cards, a bill slot, and a change purse. The wallet is 8.5" x 3.75" open, but folds perfectly to fit in your pocket (4.25" x 3.75"). Founded by husband-and-wife team Ted Vadakan and Angie Myung, Poketo (pronounced poh-KEH-toe) got its name through Angie’s Korean grandmother’s mispronunciation of “pocket.” Since 2003, Poketo has grown from an upstart creative enterprise known for their limited-edition vinyl artist wallets to a leading lifestyle brand that retains its indie vibe. Over the years, Poketo has been commissioned by Nike, MTV, Weezer, Arcade Fire, SF MoMA and many more to create exclusive lines stamped with Poketo’s signature fun and functional style. Its irresistible aesthetic so captivates the imagination that, in 2010, retail giant Target took notice; Poketo curated a 52-piece collection of messenger bags, laptop cases, water bottles, umbrellas and wallets–all made with an eye for artistic detail. Poketo’s Target collection sold out nationwide, leaving 8-foot racks bare and fans clamoring for more. To date, the shop has collaborated with over 200 international artists to produce lifestyle wares that infuse art in daily living. Poketo’s line of wallets, stationery, housewares, accessories, and apparel have appeared in New York Times Magazine, The Los Angeles Times, Real Simple, Dwell, Entertainment Weekly and more. Today, Poketo continues to inspire. Ted and Angie have shared their expertise with guest lectures at the Parsons School of Design, Wharton School of Business, University of California San Diego, CalArts and Art Center College of Design among others. The couple have also served as guest jurors for American Illustration’s Annual 27, an annual survey of best in contemporary illustration. These gratifying acknowledgements aside, Ted and Angie stay true to their founding spirit with offbeat and engaging pop-up events and other adventures.
