A special pair of pile socks featuring the ichimatsu (checkered) pattern, which has been loved for a thousand years.
The pattern is named after Sanogawa Ichimatsu, a kabuki actor of the Edo period who loved to wear it. It is known for the simple, strong beauty of evenly placed squares.
In the Meiji era, Japanese art and beauty captivated the West, a trend known as Japonisme.
The ichimatsu pattern was introduced to the West as one of its iconic designs and influenced many artists.
While using the traditional chusen dyeing technique (a Japanese hand-dyeing method), we chose materials that also consider today's environmental issues.
The body uses cotton yarn on the skin side, and polyester made from recycled PET bottles on the pile side.
A blend of traditional dyeing and new sustainable materials.

HOiSUM products are created by combining traditional techniques that can be called legacy, vintage machines that are difficult to maintain, and carefully selected materials. The feelings and warmth you feel from something that has been made with a little extra effort or has been devised by human hands cannot be mass-produced. “Hoi” is a greeting, “Sum” is a heart, and the brand name is a coined word that combines the two words. Every encounter and connection will start with a greeting, and if the heart is warm, a connection will be born. They strive to deliver products that remain in people's hearts.
