For nearly a century, Takizawa Veneer has been crafting wood products in Hokkaido, Japan. Their factory brand, PLYWOOD laboratory, is known for creating a truly unique material called Paper-Wood, which layers natural wood with recycled paper. This innovative material combines striking decorative appeal with genuine sustainability. The colorful stripe patterns are achieved by dyeing the recycled paper rather than painting, so the colors remain vibrant over time.
Every piece is carefully handcrafted by skilled Japanese artisans, resulting in a finish that can be appreciated immediately upon touch. Sustainability is at the heart of the process. Only beautiful, native Japanese hardwoods are used, including thinned and underutilized timber that might otherwise be discarded. By utilizing these resources and returning profits to local forests, Takizawa Veneer helps maintain healthy forests and supports long-term environmental restoration.
The production process avoids harmful chemicals, including formaldehyde adhesives, ensuring that Paper-Wood products are safe for homes and users. The factory itself runs entirely on renewable energy. These qualities of unique design, exceptional craftsmanship, and commitment to sustainability have earned Paper-Wood international recognition and Japan’s prestigious Good Design Award and Wood Design Award.
